The Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) has been observed annually from its inception on November 20 to memorialize those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia. The day was founded to draw attention to the continued violence directed toward transgender people.
On 2023, the transgender flag was flown above Ballarat to acknowledge Transgender Day of Remembrance.
On 2021, after a week of the Transgender flag flown above Ballarat, for the Transgender Day of Remembrance it was flown at half mast all day and then lowered in a solemn service.
The Ballarat City Council supported a free morning tea and panel discussion at the Ballarat Library to mark Transgender Awareness Week and commemorate Transgender Day of Remembrance.
A panel discussion with regional trans advocates illuminated both the progress and unfinished work in the fight for transgender and non-binary equality in regional Victoria.
This community event was an opportunity for the Ballarat community to come together in solidarity and commit to combating transphobia to create a better, safer, and more inclusive city for everyone.
