Midsumma Festival

21 January - 11 February

Midsumma is Australia's premier queer arts and cultural organisation, bringing together a diverse mix of LGBTQIA+ artists, performers, communities and audiences.

Their primary event, Midsumma Festival, usually runs over 22 days in Melbourne's summer (January/February) each year with an explosion of queer events that centre around hidden and mainstream queer culture, involving local, interstate, and international artists.

They also work to ensure statewide representation of LGBTQIA+ arts and cultures through their 'Victoria's Pride' program, which commissioned community groups, organisations and artists in regional Victoria to facilitate involvement in Victoria's Pride event activities, either in the lead-up to or on the day of Victoria's Pride one-day street party in Melbourne’s inner north.

RETRACING Ballarat's QUEER FOOTPRINTS

As part of the 2024 Victoria's Pride celebrations, we are working with the Victorian Government and Midsumma to ensure statewide representation of LGBTQIA+ communities. Explore the queer history of the Ballarat Area (Wadawurrung country) with our project Queer-ways: Retracing Ballarat's Queer Footprints.

Join us on our regional road trip for an overview of Ballarat’s queer history or explore our illustrated Augmented Reality map guided by local Lance DeBoyle.

Workshops will be held at The Art Gallery of Ballarat.

Ballarat Pride Weekend

The Ballarat Pride Weekend is a collection of events spaced out over two days. It's run by queer youth for queer youth, with a LGBT+ themed trivia on the Saturday, and a movie night featuring State of Pride, and a short film about LGBT+ Ballarat residents and groups on the Sunday.

STILL STANDING AFTER 40 YEARS

LaNCE TV Ballarat presents a live panel discussion with 5 rainbow representatives from across regional Victoria. Through the intersecting standpoints of culture, gender, disability and ethnicity, our panellists will reflect upon historical, social and legislative issues which still affect LGBTIQA+ Victorians after 40 years since the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Victoria.

The City of Ballarat acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land we live and work on, the Wadawurrung and Dja Dja Wurrung People, and recognises their continuing connection to the land and waterways. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging and extend this to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
