This festival utilises the platform of theatre to disrupt the broader societal narrative around the who and what of queerness. We offer authentic disruption as the vehicle to tell our own LGBTIQA+ stories and reclaim our humanness from the judgements on our existence.
It features a diverse range of events including talks, panel discussions, script readings of classic queer Australian plays, open rehearsals of new works, and theatre masterclasses led by some of Australia's most influential queer theatre makers.
The Festival of Australian Queer Theatre is for the allies, the political, the creative, the curious, and the queer. This festival is for those who want to understand, and for those who want to be understood.
FAQT is an unforgettable experience as Ballarat transforms into a hub of queer artistic brilliance during the fourth weekend in August. From captivating theatrical works to panel discussions, this festival promises an array of experiences that will challenge what you think you know about LGBTIQA+ communities.
Here you'll find FAQT events that were supported by the City of Ballarat.
We were delighted to present the first pop up A Little Queer Library at the inaugural Festival of Australian Queer Theatre.
Stuffed full of LGBTIQA+ performing arts and artists books, we had lots of great interactions and feedback - someone even took a book at the launch, read it and then donated it back on the last day for someone else to enjoy!
